Dialog Champions League 2013 Kicks Off on 4TH May 2013
20 Teams, 500 players, 15 Venues, 187 matches
The 8th version of Dialog Champions League now commonly known as DCL2013 will create history with 20 teams participating, creating the highest reach with the most number of encounters to become the #1 Lague for any sport in the country. DCL 2013, with the inclusion of Solid SC from Anuradapura, Pelicans SC from Kurunegala, City SC from Matara, Up Country Lions from Nawalapitiya, and Super Sun from Beruwala will add excitement in these regions, in addition to the traditional venues of Kalutara, Wennapuwa, Negombo, Kelaniya and Colombo attracting thousands of soccer fans relishing the keen competition and champion brand of Football on cards.
Dialog had been the FFSL partner for the past 8 years, strengthening the bond with the Football public more and more! The tournament will have a total of 187 matches on home and away basis. This year most of the teams are fielding African players which will surely add color and muscle with their skills and style which will delight the fans no end. Their goal celebrations are a treat to watch with the Roger Milla bongo routine on the touch lines!
The competitiveness among the DCL clubs are so high this year that even the new comers from Kurunegala, Pelicans SC have brought in a Moroccan Coach to adopt the Spanish style of football which will sure be a challenge to the Brazilian styles played by Saunders & Ratnam in particular. The more British style of football favored by New Young SC and Blue Star SC will have their hands full with the virtuosity on show this season.
The DCL 2013 with over 500 registered players will have include in their ranks, players from Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana and Morocco and this will offer an opportunity for our players to combine well for never before seen matches in all venues. The penetration planned for the DCL 2013 in multiple outstation locations, will create an opportunity for young school football stars from the provincial regions to play for their town clubs and become superstars in their own communities.
The DCL 2013 will also serve as a channel for our best players to vie for selection to the national pool as the new Brazilian Coaches will be on a talent hunt to reconfigure our National Squad for the year end SAFF tournament.
It will be interesting to see how the formidable security forces teams, Army, Navy, Air Force Police and Civil Security face up to the challenge thrown by clubs with foreign talent in their formations.
Currently, Ratnam SC is the reigning champion and Sri Lanka Army is the runner up in this competition.
Over 200 match officials including FFSL Referees, Match Commissioners, Mar Com Officials and Security Coordinators have been assigned to manage the DCL 2013 professionally, to make every game an event to remember and offer Football fans entertainment par excellence at all venues.
The 20 teams are drawn in to 2 groups with 10 teams in one group who will play against each other on a home and away basis making 18 games for each club in their respective group. A win will earn them 3 points with just 1 point for a draw. After the completion of all their matches in the group, the best 4 who secure the highest number of points from each respective group qualify for the Quarter Finals to be played on knock-out basis in order to reach the FINALS of the DCL 2013 Championship.
The Champions will receive Rs. 750,000/- in cash together with the handsome DIALOG Trophy. The DCL 2013 champions will also qualify to participate in the AFC Presidents Cup 2014. The DCL runners up will receive 500,000/-, while the loosing semifinalists will take home 100,000/- each respectively.
President Mr. Ranjith Rodrigo, Secretary General Mr. UpaliHewage, Chairman-Marketing, Mr. Trevor Reckerman and Chairman-Competitions Mr. K P Pathirana participated on behalf of the FFSL, while Pradeep Keerthirathne, Vice President National Sales, Dialog Axiata PLC & Rizvi Farook, Chief Manager Group Marketing represented Dialog Axiata PLC.
And so, the DCL 2013, the BIG LEAGUE is sure to create history and exciting Football on the cards over the next 03 months with 20 teams, 500 players, and 187 big games in 15 venues all over the island. There will be one DCL 2013 Champion in the end but all are sure to enjoy this pulsating competition!

This tournament was played on a knock out basis where the 4 clubs that topped the points table of the Champions League were invited to participate.
Clubs that participated – Ratnam Sports Club, SL Navy Sports Club, Don Bosco Sports Club, SL Army Sports Club.
The matches were played at the City Football Complex where we had capacity crowds and the matches were very competitive.
