FFSL has been very active in its various regions assisting victims of the tragedy which happened on 26 December 2004. Among the efforts so far done are the setting up of a relief centre and the donation of equipment, including footballs as well as household equipment.

FUTSAL 5-A-SIDE CHAMPIONSHIP 2004


For the first time in Sri Lanka, a 5 - a - side Futsal Championship was conducted by the FFSL at the Reid Avenue Ground on 6th March 2004, Futsal which is very popular in the European countries was introduced to Sri Lanka only recently.

Each team is composed of only five players and the duration is limited to 2o minutes.

Altogether 16 teams participated in this tournament and those who qualified for the semifinals were Air Force SC , Police SC , Javalane SC and Victory SC Teams.

Java lane emerged winners in the final match played against Air Force with a score of 4 -2. Mohamed Nasser scored 3 goals and Chamath Perera scored 1 goal for Javalane while Chanaka Fernando scored both goals for Air Force.

DIG Gamini Randeni President FFSL,Mr. Chrysantha Perera CEO and Mr. M Premadasa - Director Futsal Project and other officials were present among the gathering where the winners were awarded Rs.25,000/= and the runners up were awarded Rs.15,000/= .

Mr R. Puvanendram of Colombo Veterans Sports Club, who sponsored the tournament, was the chief guest at the final.
