FFSL has been very active in its various regions assisting victims of the tragedy which happened on 26 December 2004. Among the efforts so far done are the setting up of a relief centre and the donation of equipment, including footballs as well as household equipment.

Introduction of Football to Girls

Awareness Programme
In promoting women’s’ football the following training programmes were conducted by our youth development department.

Galle :-
A Seminar and a training programme was held at Galle to Introduce Football for Girls. The practical and Theory classes were conducted for the 110 under 16 girls representing 8 schools in Galle district .

Kalutara :-
The above was held at Kalutara Newly opened Vernon Fernando Stadium on 13th November 2004. Approximately 75 girls of various age groups and school teachers from 5 schools were participated. This programme was held under the patronage of Dr. Manil Fernando, who delivered a lecture on First Aid and value of nutrition food, and also the chairperson of our women’s’ committee Mrs. Olivia Gamage who stressed on importance of participation in various sports and specially football.

Kurunegala :-
This programme was held at Maligapitiya Grounds at Kurunegala on 15th November 2004. The main feature was that the participants were below 13 years and represented 14 schools in the district. Approximately 225 girls and 14 teachers participated.

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka gave away footballs to all participating schools for their training.

Our Youth Coachers assist this programmes to make success.
