FFSL has been very active in its various regions assisting victims of the tragedy which happened on 26 December 2004. Among the efforts so far done are the setting up of a relief centre and the donation of equipment, including footballs as well as household equipment.

2006 FIFA WORLD CUP GERMANY
SRI LANKA TO MEET INDONESIA IN FIFA PRELIMINARY COMPETITION ASIA ZONE GROUP 8 QUALIFIER


Sri Lanka meets Indonesia in the 2006 FIFA World Cup preliminary competition Asia Zone –Group match on 8th September at the Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo. The match is schedule to kick off at 6.30 pm.

According to Sri Lankan coach Sampath Perera, even though Sri Lanka is not up to the slandered of Indonesians in every department they will fight hard to give their best and a match to enjoy for the Sri Lankan supporters. Indonesia is ranked 17 in the Asia and 92nd in the world. Lankans only placed 28 and 143 in the Asia and the World rankings respectively.

Sri Lanka looses the services of 4 players who played the previous qualifying games due to and injury and disciplinary actions. Imtiaz Raheem, Imran Mohomed and Christeen Fernando will not be playing due to injuries while Kasun Jayasuriya misses the game since he was served with two yellow cards during the previous games.

Sri Lanka played three matches in the competition with Turkmenistan, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia previously in this home and away fixture. They lost to Turkmenistan (2-0) Saudi Arabia (1-0) and Indonesia (1-0). Seven Asian teams qualify for 2006 FIFA world cup preliminary round.

After taking up with Indonesia Sri Lanka will play against Turkmenistan on 09th October here in Sri Lanka and they will meet Saudi Arabia on 17th November in Saudi Arabia.
