FFSL has been very active in its various regions assisting victims of the tragedy which happened on 26 December 2004. Among the efforts so far done are the setting up of a relief centre and the donation of equipment, including footballs as well as household equipment.

Dialog GSM powers “Kit Premier League – 2004

01 June 2004, Colombo: The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) today launched the star studded “KIT PREMIER LEAGUE” Football Tournament, organized by the FFSL and backed by sponsor Dialog GSM.

Present at the launch were FFSL President Gamini Randeni, AFC Vice President & Chairman - Management Committee Manilal Fernando, Secretary Sunil Seneweera, Treasurer Ranjith Rodrigo, Director - Competitions M.T. Fernando,CEO - Dialog GSM Dr Hans Wijayasuriya, Marketing Manager Nishantha Wickramaratne, Specialist -Marketing Communications Chirantha de Zoysa, as well as other officials of FFSL, Premier League Clubs/Leagues, and the media.

This is the second consecutive year that Dialog GSM sponsors the Premier League tournament – following the success of last year’s tournament. CEO Dialog GSM Dr Hans Wijayasuriya said, “Dialog GSM is pleased to be the exclusive sponsor of the Kit Premier League – our aim is to support all national sports at a developmental stage and spur their elevation to internationally competitive levels. We are committed to nurturing, promoting and developing young talent at club level. The Kit premier league will provide the teams with ample exposure to improve their skills in order to ensure a fertile source of talent to feed the national team”.

Dr Wijayasuriya also thanked the FFSL for the support extended to Dialog GSM, adding, “We have worked closely with the organizers to ensure that the Kit premier league will be an enjoyable experience for both the players and the spectators. We wish the teams all success and may the true spirit of competition reign”.

16 of the top teams in the country will battle it out for the Kit Premier League Trophy, including two new teams – Kandy York and Wennapuwa –who have been promoted to the Premier League following their Division 1 performance. The premier league matches will commence on 04 June and will continue till December.

Dialog GSM has developed a special advertising & promotional campaign for the Kit Premier League with the participation of star players of the National Football Team and the popular “Bathiya and Santhush” singing duo. Plans are also underfoot to introduce innovative promotion avenues with the aim of building an even bigger following for football in Sri Lanka, and keep the spirit and passion of football alive.
