Renown SC last year's Sharp FA Cup champions will
confront the present Premier league champions Blue
Stars SC in the first semi-final of Sharp FA Cup today
at Sugathadasa stadium at 5 p.m. The second semi-final
at 7 p.m. at the same venue will see the champion
of champions Ratnam SC take on Jupiters SC.
Sharp FA Cup the biggest tournament
conducted by Football Federation of Sri Lanka saw
leading teams from Colombo and outstation in battle
for supremacy.
The only team to reach the semis
this year from out of Colombo is the Premier League
champs Blue Star SC from Kalutara.
Kalutara team is a vastly improved
side this year. This team reached the top due mainly
to their dedication along with the support from administrators
of the club led by Manilal Fernando.
Renown SC who won the FA Cup
last year beating Air Force in the final failed to
live up to expectations during the recently concluded
Premier league.
But playing in the FA Cup they
made good and reached the semi-finals. They beat the
strong Negombo Youth SC in the quarter-final one goal
to nil.
Renown will go flat out to reach
the final with the intention of retaining the Cup
for a another term.
Meanwhile Blue Star SC who came
a long way to reach the pinnacle of soccer in Sri
Lanka hope to make it a double and are sure to dish
out everything in store to get the better of defending
champs to find a place in the final and maintain their
prestige as champions in the local scene.
Ratnam SC who defeated Java
Lane SC in the quarters 2-1 have to confront stiff
opposition today from Negombo Jupitors SC.
Jupitors SC who created major
upsets during the Premier League championship ousting
many strong teams is sure to do the same here today.
Ratnam SC on the other hand
are capable of withstanding any opposition.
Spectators who gather to witness
these two games are assured of classy soccer from
all four teams before the final scheduled for May
29.
