FFSL has been very active in its various regions assisting victims of the tragedy which happened on 26 December 2004. Among the efforts so far done are the setting up of a relief centre and the donation of equipment, including footballs as well as household equipment.

AWARDS CEREMONY



The Kit Premier League Soccer Championship awards ceremony was held on a grand scale at Waters’ Edge, Battaramulla last Wednesday.

The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. Hans Wijesooriya, Chief Executive Officer Dialog Telekom (Pvt) Ltd the main sponsor of the Championship.

A large gathering was present to witness the Ratnam SC carry away the two main trophies the league championship and the champion of champions trophy with cash awards. The segment ‘B’ championship was handed over to New Youngs Sports Club from Wennappuwa. They were followed by Jupiters SC from Negombo as runners-up. Blue Star Sports Club from Kalutara carried away the two runners up awards for the league tourney and the champion of champions trophy along with cash awards.

Kasun Jayasuriya the main striker from Ratnam SC who had a goal aggregate of 31 goals during the season which also led his club to win both trophies was awarded the Best Player’s award. He was also selected as the most popular player which was selected through SMS messages voting system. On the voting his club too was chosen as the most popular club.

The Kotahena Old Bens Club which took the third slot in the segment ‘B’ received the Fair Play Trophy for their Fair Play during the whole season.

Football Federation of Sri Lanka which conducted the tourney according to schedule added glamour to the game by introducing an award for the Best Referee with sole intention encouraging referees too to play vital role in promoting the game and also to control the game in a fair manner. This award was presented to Anura de Silva while D. I. Dissanayake was chosen as the Best Assistant Referee.

Dr. Hans Wijesooriya (CEO Dialog Telekom) speaking on the occasion said his firm has been a main sponsor for many sporting events in Sri Lanka. Joining hands with Football Federation has brought the required mileage and also the sport has spread to every nook and corner of the country as the Dialog has spread its wings. We will continue to be a part of Football in Sri Lanka said Wijesooriya while thanking FFSL for their co-operation in conducting a highly successful championship along with them.

Manilal Fernando, Management Committee Chairman, Senior Vice President AFC speaking on the occasion said that Football Federation of Sri Lanka joined with Dialog with the intention of promoting and popularising it throughout the country. We have been successful in our ventures.

These are the results we gained through this combination with Dialog. The Federation sincerely thanked the sponsor for their generous contribution. Their willingness to continue with this sponsorship is sure to help football in Sri Lanka, said Fernando.
