The German national football team (Die deutsche Nationalmannschaft) players as agreed to donate Euro 250,000 for a project in the tsunami devastated areas in Sri Lanka in the aim of bringing hope through football to the tsunami affected football community.

In this connection the Minister of Foreign affairs Ports & Aviation Hon. Mangala Samaraweera made a request through the Municipal Council of Matara and Matara Football League to allocate these funds to redevelop Uyanwatte Football Ground Matara and to construct a training centre at this ground.

 In consultation with the Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany His Excellency Juergen Weerth the Football Federation of Sri Lanka agreed to allocate these funds to the project as requested.   

The foundation stone of the project will be laid on the 16th January at 10.30 a.m. by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, His Excellency Juergen Weerth, SM Upul Nishantha His Worship the Mayor of Matara with Mr. Manilal Fernando, FIFA Development Officer, Colombo.
