FFSL has been very active in its various regions assisting victims of the tragedy which happened on 26 December 2004. Among the efforts so far done are the setting up of a relief centre and the donation of equipment, including footballs as well as household equipment.

The Buddhist, Christian, Islam and Hindu clergy and the Children [football Players] participating at the remembrance service of the victims of Tsunami over 48000 people across the Island.
Mr.Manilal Fernando and the Football Family of Sri Lanka remembered those who lost their lives in Tsunami disaster on the occasion of first year of remembrance where the nation dedicated the day for Remembrance and Regaining Sri Lanka programmes.
The programme was held in Kalutara Beach a place where Tsunami destroyed many lives and Properties. The day started with a beach football games of girls and boys most of whom are affected by Tsunami. After the matches the people including the parents of players, Players, members of Football Family in Sri Lanaka participated in the Religious ceremonies conducted in Buddhist, Christian, Islam and Hindu Clergy.
After the religious observation the distribution of Schools Books, School Bags and Soccer Boots for Children affected by Tsunami was distributed. This was sponsored by Mr. Manilal Fernando .Football Federation of Sri Lanka has initiated many Post Tsunami Relief programmes and through out the year as a part of FOOTBALL FOR HOE programmes jointly funded by FIFA/AFC through the Tsunami Fund.
